CULTURE LOVERS

Nowhere is better placed than Villa Campo Verde for groups in search of culture. Whether it is art, or music, architecture, or the many geological wonders of the region, it is all within easy reach of our wonderful villa and its superb surrounds. Or if you want to learn all about the history of the region but keep well rested, take advantage of our well-stocked library.

MUSIC LOVERS:

Umbria is famous for its music festivals, from jazz, Choral, and symphony orchestras. Here are a few to tempt you, but book early as many are famous right across Europe, so accommodation can be scarce!

  1. Spoleto’s Festival dei Due Monde (June 30th- July 16th 2017): Link
  2. Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia (July 7th-16th 2017): Link

ART LOVERS:

Good art is everywhere and can be viewed all throughout the year. An itinerary can be created to take in the delights of such places as Spoleto, Assisi, Spello, Perugia, Spello, Trevi, Arrezo, Monterchi and Sansepolchro.

Day trips to Rome and Florence are also perfectly possible.

If you want to bring a group to draw and paint, then the glorious colours of spring and opportunities to feature olive oil and wine harvests in the autumn make them particularly good times.

CARSULAE

The ruins of the Roman town of Carsulae are not extensive but nonetheless give a good idea as to the shape and size of a small Roman town.

It is situated on and owed its growth to the Via Flaminia – the main East-West road, which the Romans built built in 220-219 BC.

Many typical Roman features such as the theatre, amphitheatre, public baths, forum and basilica can be clearly identified.

LAKE TRASIMENO

The scene of Hannibal’s famous battle (217 BC) in which he defeated the Roman Army and opened up the way for him to attack Rome. You can see the burial pits he had made after the battle.

LOCAL FESTIVAL LOVERS:

Every village takes time to celebrate some of their local produce, whether onions, celery, asparagus, cheese, truffles, oil, wine or salamis. The customs are deeply rooted in the agricultural heritage of Umbria and the celebrations are open hearted, generous and exuberant.

Local festivals can be great for local atmosphere. It is amazing the range of things they find it necessary to celebrate.

One of the most spectacular is Spello’s Flower Festival on Corpus Christi (mid June).

THERE IS EVEN A CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL!!

Please enquire if you need help planning any group excursions, as we would be happy to put you in touch with a local guide and taxi/minibus service.
